FILM: BRAZILIA. LIFE AFTER DESIGN
The city of Brasília is a mysterious place, a concrete utopia born in the desert. In 1956, when Brazilian democracy was undergoing its revival, architect Oscar Niemeyer in collaboration with urbanist Lucio Costa created an innovative city development plan for Brasília, based on the principles of micromanagement to simplify the daily lives of its citizens. This ambitious plan involved creating the space where a “new Brazilian citizen” would be born. Coming face to face with a ghost city poses a question to the audience: What does it feel like to live inside someone else’s idea?
