STREET ART 3.0. ART IN THE STREETS: BETWEEN BANS AND COMMISSIONS
Street artists shape a city's visual culture, leaving messages to all of its residents regardless of their status and income level. Artists initiate a spontaneous dialogue with their spectators about the urban space, its norms and exceptions, textures and surfaces. In the course of this dialogue, city facades are imbued with new significance and reinterpreted, and decrepit and condemned spaces are reclaimed. An alternative gloss on conventional spaces reveals an unknown city to its residents, and shifts existing borders, showcasing their absurdity. By using unanticipated and not immediately clear images, frightening or funny, artists suggest that the spectator is more a creator than a casual observer.
