DISCUSSION: BLACK MIRROR VERSUS SCREEN. FILMING IN THE CITY

Efforts to breathe new life into cinema infrastructure are currently underway in Moscow. Neighborhood movie theatres are being reconstructed, from small first-floor venues to theatre giants in the suburbs, plus the Khudozhestvenniy central signature theatre. At the same time, YouTube culture is flourishing, amateur cinematography available to virtually anyone is ramping up, and new platforms for online viewing at home are finding their niches. More and more people are choosing to watch TV, and the video game industry is seeing a revival thanks to VR technologies. How will the cinema industry change its form in the future? Will new tech win over the need for a communal experience? Will democratic formats currently on the fringe ever supersede the expensive proprietary movie-studio world?
