After Hurricane Sandy, which caused serious damage and large-scale coastal floods in New York City, the city authorities announced a tender to design the Lower Manhattan flood protection system. The famous architectural bureau, BIG, proposed a project, the scope of which is amazing: the agency will build a 16km dam along the coastline of New York. Not only does the giant dam protect the city from disasters, it also creates new recreational and green spaces.
