The intense air pollution has made several Chinese cities almost uninhabitable. Vertical forests designed by the architect Stefano Boeri aim to respond to the national environmental challenge. 100-200 tree- and plant-covered skyscrapers can absorb up to 25 tons of carbon a year and produce about 60 kg of oxygen every day.
