In post-industrial cities transport is the critical source of environmental pollution. The world is engrossed by the idea of sustainable development, in which transport often becomes the key target in the fight with pollution. Cities race to curb the use of petrol and diesel, tighten regulations for cars, creating a more convenient public transport and good conditions for carsharing, providing infrastructure for cyclists, pedestrians, scooters, gyroscooters and other new (or old and well-forgotten) means of transportation.
