Over centuries, the standards of beauty and health, as well as the attitude towards obesity, have changed. Nowadays, accepting oneself and one’s body are becoming popular, which has helped overweight people trust their doctors and surroundings more, and to take care of one’s health rather than avoiding doctors' visits, feeling guilty and ashamed for being overweight. However, it is still difficult to find words to describe and address obesity.
The COVID-19 pandemic worsened the situation: many people lacked access to healthy food and opportunities for physical activity, and the lockdown undermined the mental health of many citizens. What will solve the problem of obesity and how can we talk about it? Cities must join forces and focus on developing prevention, treatment and destigmatization programs.
  • What factors influence obesity?
  • What programs are megacities implementing to raise public awareness of obesity?
  • Can a person with a high body mass index be healthy? How should we raise the issue of obesity in the era of new ethics?
