Rem Koolhaas will speak at Moscow Urban Forum 2018

The outstanding Dutch architect, architectural theorist, and the founder of the OMA architectural bureau Rem Koolhaas will for the first time participate in the work of the Moscow Urban Forum 2018.

Koolhaas is the author of the most outstanding buildings and projects of modern times: Qatar national library and the headquarters of Qatar Foundation, the Corporate Foundation Galleries Lafayettes in Paris, the exhibition centre Fondazione Prada in Milan, the Headquarters of China Central Television in Beijing, and the Central Library in Seattle have been built according to his design.

Koolhaas actively works in Russia as well. He was involved in the creation of Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design in Moscow and was in charge of the Institute's educational programme from 2010 to 2012. Rem Koolhaas is the author of the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art building in Gorky Park. In February 2018, the architect presented the reconstruction concept for the New State Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val in Moscow.

At the presentation of the book "Delirious New York" at Garage Museum, Koolhaas stated the following about Russian constructivism: "When I was 25 years old, I saw for the first time the work of constructivists: capsules. I began to fantasise and understood: if we look at New York very closely, we will see that the Russian people have managed to predict what the world will be like. The manifesto was written in Russia, but the USA is quite the opposite. It is a place where anything can be implemented, but without a manifesto".

In 1999, Koolhaas created AMO, a research and branding studio for architecture projects. It was designed as a mirror image of OMA. AMO is an acting analytical centre focusing on media, politics, renewable energy sources and fashion. The studio participated in the implementation of projects with Universal Studios, Schiphol airport in Amsterdam, Heineken, Ikea, Condé Nast, Harvard University, Hermitage and the Strelka Institute.

In addition to the architectural design, Rem Koolhaas writes theoretical articles and books, primarily on the role of architecture in the modern world and is also engaged in teaching. Koolhaas managed the 14th Venice Architectural Biennale with the theme Fundamentals in 2014. Currently he is preparing a major exhibition for the Guggenheim Museum, which will open in 2019 under the title "Countryside: the Future of the World".

Koolhaas has got several international prizes and awards, including the Pritzker Architecture Prize (2000) and the Golden Lion of the Venice Biennale for the contribution to architecture (2010) he was included in the list of 100 Most Influential People on the Planet according to the magazine TIME (2008).

The Moscow Urban Forum in 2018 will take place for the eighth time at the concert hall of Zaryadye Park. The theme of the MUF 2018 business programme, which will take place on 17–18 July, is the "Megacity of the Future. New Space for Living".
