It is the first time that the Moscow City Government will participate in the Tenth Edition of the
World Urban Forum that will be held from 8-13 February 2020 in Abu Dhabi. It is the largest international event on the auspices of the UN dedicated to urban development. The Moscow City business programme is organized by Moscow Urban Forum.
The World Urban Forum – with the Tenth Edition’s title “Cities of Opportunities: Connecting Culture and Innovation” – was initiated by the UN in 2001, to discuss the most pressing issues facing the world today: sustainable development, rapid urbanization and addressing the climate change issues.
The Moscow City Government stand will be presented at the WUF10 exhibition and will hold the business programme and Moscow urban megaprojects presentations – the transport system development, renovation programme, industrial zones redevelopment, sport clusters, parks and public places. Representatives of international organizations and city administrations, federal and regional authorities of various countries and regions will attend the Moscow City Government stand.
The business programme of the Moscow City stand will be held from 9-11 February, and each day will be dedicated to different fields of urban development: quality of urban environment design, technologies, culture and tourism. During these days the Moscow City Government stand will become the platform for an international expert dialogue aimed at the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals in modern global cities. The discussions of the sustainable development strategies will bring together such international experts as Guy Perry, Vice President, Urban Planning and Design, Mckinsey & Company, Federico Parolotto, Senior Partner, Mobility in Chain, Greg Lindsay, Senior Fellow, Mobility, NewCities Foundation, Vilma Jurkute, Director, Alserkal Avenue in Dubai and others.

The Moscow City Government delegation will participate in the business programme at the stand. In partnership with the Moscow Urban Forum the side event “Sustainable Transformation of Global Cities. It will be dedicated to the instruments and projects available to cities implementing the SDG through the raising of citizens’ quality of life.

“Moscow will not only present the Moscow City Government stand at the World Urban Forum, demonstrating Moscow’s achievements in the sphere of sustainable urban development, but in fact become one of the key participants of the forum, inviting guests from all over the world to participate in the Moscow City business programme not only at the stand, but also in the main WUF10 programme. Such close cooperation between the two largest urban congresses – WUF and MUF – became possible after the signing of the global partnership agreement between the Moscow Urban Forum and UN-Habitat within the MUF2018, and participation of the UN-Habitat Executive Director Maimunah Mohd Sharif in the Forum in 2019, where the official meeting between M.M. Sharif with Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin was held. In her speech at MUF2019, the Executive Director mentioned that Moscow should share with the international audience the experience of the urban environment transformations and addressing urban problems”, - Denis Boykov, CEO of Moscow Urban Forum, comments.
