Minister of Municipality and the Environment, Qatar

His Excellency Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi was appointed Minister of Municipality and Environment in January 2016.

His Excellency the Minister of Municipality and Environment started his career as an officer in the Qatari Armed Forces in 1980, and held several military posts, including the Commander of Artillery Battalion in 1986 and Corps Artillery Commander in 1992, and became a Brigadier in 2001.

His Excellency the Minister of Municipality and Environment also held several diplomatic posts, serving as Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2001 and Qatar’s ambassador to France in 2002.

In 2003, His Excellency the Minister of Municipality and Environment was appointed Assistant Foreign Minister for Follow-up Affairs in 2003.

Throughout his career, His Excellency the Minister of Municipality and Environment served as Chairman of numerous Committees, including the Governmental Committee on Events and Conferences Coordination (2006 – 2011), Committee on Demarcating Borders between the State of Qatar and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (1996- 2000) and the Governmental Committee for Delineating Maritime Borders (2009 – 2011).

His Excellency the Minister of Municipality and Environment holds a BA in Military Sciences from the Special Military School of Saint- Cyr, France and an MA in Military, Command and Staff Sciences, from Higher School of Joint Military Staff, France.

He also holds Diplomas in Artillery and Military Sciences from Pakistan and France.

His Excellency the Minister of Municipality and Environment has overall responsibility for all Ministry of Municipality and Environment issues including:

  • Preparation of urban plans at the State level;
  • Land surveying and subdivisions;
  • Land expropriation & temporary land acquisition for the public interest.
