Being the former Chief Urban Designer of New York City, Alexandros Washburn is a global authority on the design of cities. He is the author of The Nature of Urban Design, a New York Perspective on Resilience. His experience aligns urban design with the realities of policy and finance and the capacities of technology to create city-transforming urban master plans.
While at the New York City Department of City Planning, he was in charge of the urban design of projects city-wide from the High Line to Hudson Yards. His master planning activities included public space designs, public-private development programs, architectural design guidelines and the creation of new zoning districts to achieve the goal of a greener and greater New York.
Alexandros Washburn is now the principal of DRAW Brooklyn LLC, a multi-disciplinary design firm that creates master plans and implementation strategies for cities and neighborhoods around the world.
