Claudio Acioly

Chief of Training and Capacity Development, UN-Habitat

Claudio Acioly is an architect and urban planner, a development practitioner with more than 35 years of experience. He joined the United Nations in 2008 as Chief of Housing Policy at UN-Habitat and as coordinator of the United Nations Housing Rights Programme. He is currently the head of Capacity Development and coordinates training, capacity building of local leaders, e-learning and knowledgebased initiatives like the UN-Habitat Partners University Initiative and the online Global Urban Lectures Series. He has worked in more than 30 countries as program manager, practitioner, technical advisor, development consultant and training and capacity building expert in the field of housing, slum upgrading and urban management. Acioly is the author of books and articles dealing with housing, informal settlements and slum upgrading, urban densities, inner city revitalization and participatory urban management. As senior housing and land policy expert of the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies-IHS (1993-2008) he has also worked as consultant to the World Bank, UNDP, UNECE, UN-HABITAT and several bilateral organizations.
