The scientist and practitioner, Collin Ellard works at the intersection of neuroscience and architectural and environmental design. He is the author of “Places of the Heart: The Psychogeography of Everyday Life” and “You Are Here: Why We Can Find Our Way to the Moon But Get Lost at the Mall”.
He publishes scientific work frequently in international journals in North America, Europe, and Asia and has also contributed to the public discussion of human-scaled design through his work with museums, the media and his delivery of public lectures to a wide variety of audiences. He is a cognitive neuroscientist at the University of Waterloo, director of its Urban Realities Laboratory, and a member of the advisory council of the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture.
