Mansur Yavas was a municipal councillor in Beypazarı District from 1989 to 1994. In 1994, he became the candidate for the mayoralty. He was elected Mayor of Beypazarı on 18 April 1999 with the vote of 51%. In 2004, he increased his vote and was elected as the Mayor of Beypazarı for the second term on 28 March 2004 with the vote of 55%.
He attracted great attention with the voting rate of 27% as a candidate for the mayoralty of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality in 2009 local elections. After that, he achieved great success with the vote of 43.83% in 2014 as the candidate for the mayoralty from the Republican People’s Party.
Mr. Mansur YAVAŞ, who was deemed as worthy by the Turkish Language Institution for his efforts to protect Turkish Language, was awarded as “Mayor of the Year” by TÜSİAV on September 24, 2004.
Mr. Mansur YAVAŞ, who is known as the architecture of the "Beypazari Model" applied to social municipal work in collaboration with citizens, universities, and non-governmental organizations, he contributed to increase the tourism capacity of both Beypazarı district and the capital city of Turkey with festivals, feasts, restoration works of the historic Beypazarı mansions, increasing the capacity of hospitality in Beypazarı, and promoting the regional cuisine and he provided employment opportunities in the region.
He elected as Mayor of Ankara on 31 March 2019 with the vote of 50.93% from CHP (Republican People's Party).
