Mikhail Dmitriev occupied top management positions in federal government agencies and expert organisations: president of the Centre of Strategic Development fund (2005–2013); First Deputy Minister for Economic Development and Commerce of Russia (2000–2004); member of the Scientific Council of the Moscow Carnegie Centre (1998–2000); First Deputy Minister for Labour and Social Development of Russia (1997–1998); People's Deputy of the Russian Federation, Vice Chairman of the Committee of the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation for Relations between Republics and Regional Policy (1990–1993).
Mikhail Dmitriyev is a member of the Board of the Ministry for Development of the Russian Far East, Chairman of the Council of the CSR-Region Foundation, Member of the Council of the New Economic School, Member of the Scientific Council of the Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy, member of the Board of the Levada Centre, Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Institute for the Economics of Infrastructure, member of the Public Award Committee for the International Leontiev Medal “For Contribution to Economic Reform”.
Previously, Mikhail was a member of the Board of the Ministry of Regional Development of Russia (2011-2014), the Expert Council of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (2006-2009), the Supervisory Board of Sberbank of Russia (2011-2013), the Commission on Administrative Reform of the Government of the Russian Federation (2003-2009), the Committee of Experts on State Administration of the United Nations (2005-2013), as well as the Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Commissions for Investment of Pension Savings under the President of the Russian Federation (2009-2012).
