Milena Ivković

Member of the Board of Directors, ISOCARP

Milena Ivković is the Member of the Board of Directors of ISOCARP (International Society of City and Regional Planners) and Director in charge of ISOCARP Institute’s Urban Planning Advisory Teams (UPAT). She is an international designer and researcher, with an expertise in collaborative urban planning, placemaking and urban renewal. 

Between 2011 and 2015 Milena worked as an independent researcher, advising various international organisations (UN HABITAT, Mistra Urban Futures and UIC) on the importance of public space, focusing on inclusive and community-oriented design. Before 2011, Milena worked as urban designer at several Dutch architecture and planning bureaus, specialized in international (master)planning consultancy.

Next to her work at ISOCARP, Milena runs Rotterdam-based practice Blok74, dedicated to develop new ways of planning communication and design. The office explores the application of web-based simulations, game mechanics and AR technologies in planning practice. 

Born in Belgrade (Serbia), Milena received MSc Degree in Architecture and Urban Planning at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade, for a thesis showcasing the reconstruction of the cities in the Post-Communist era. She worked as a teaching assistant at the same Faculty, and as a researcher at IAUS (Institute of Architecture and Urbanism of Serbia). She took active part in the knowledge community, by initiating different independent researches on the relations between urban renewal and public involvement. 

Right now Milena divides her time between Rotterdam, Belgrade and on-going projects locations, from Asia and Africa to Europe and the Middle East.
