Vladimir Kutyrev

Head, Russian Research Anti-Plague Institute "Microbe"

In 1975, Vladimir graduated from the General Medicine Faculty of Saratov Medical Institute, with honours. In 1978, he completed an employer-sponsored graduate programme in Microbiology at the All-Union Antiplague Scientific Research Institute "Mikrob". In 1979, Mr Kutyryov successfully defended his Candidate of Sciences dissertation, in 1992 – his Doctoral dissertation. While working at the institute, Mr Kutyryov went through all stages of career development, from junior research associate to the head of the molecular microbiology laboratory. In 1997, Mr Kutyryov was appointed Director of the Russian Antiplague Scientific Research Institute "Mikrob". In 2001, he received the academic rank of Professor of Microbiology. Mr Kutyryov received the National Award of the Russian Federation in science and technology, 2002, for introducing new methods of preventing, diagnosing and treating anthrax. In 2005, Vladimir Viktorovich was elected associate member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (RAMS), in 2011 – academician of RAMS. Since 2014, Mr Kutyryov is academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2010, Mr Kutyryov received the honorary title of "Honored Inventor of the Russian Federation". In 2015, he was awarded the Order of Friendship, under Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, for outstanding efforts in providing humanitarian aid by organising anti-epidemic measures and ebola diagnostics in the Republic of Guinea.
