Graduated from Istanbul University with a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in human resources management.
In 1992, began working for a family company specialising in construction and contract work. Was the company's board chairman.
In 2008, joined the Republican People's Party (Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi, CHP) and became the elected leader of its youth division.
In 2009, headed the party's chapter in Beylikdüzü District.
Was elected Mayor (Prefect) of Beylikdüzü on 30 March 2014. As Mayor (Prefect) of Beylikdüzü, joined multiple non-government organisations.
Nominated as the CHP candidate for the Mayoral Elections in Istanbul in 2019.
Won the Elections on 31 March 2019.
Re-elected Mayor of Istanbul on 23 June 2019, gaining 54.2% of the vote.
