Dr. Karen Lee MD MHSc FRCPC is Associate Professor, Div. of Preventive Medicine, Department of Medicine at University of Alberta, Canada, and author of the recent book “Fit Cities. My Quest to Improve the World's Health and Wellness - Including Yours”. She also teaches the Designing Healthy Cities course annually each June at Columbia University in NYC. Dr. Lee was previously NYC’s Inaugural Healthy Built Environment and Active Design Director, and Deputy to the Assistant Commissioner for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control during the Bloomberg Administration. She has also worked for the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Karen Lee is also the founder of Dr. Karen Lee Health + Built Environment + Social Determinants Consulting, helping countries, municipalities and organizations towards achieving the goal of creating Fit Cities around the world, cities that help prevent and reverse Non-Communicable Diseases such as heart disease, cancers and diabetes, and their key risk factors, now the leading causes of death, illness and healthcare costs globally.
